Were you at your meeting this week?
A member put it so clearly and I wanted to pass along her words of wisdom; thanks Julie…
“Meetings really are one of the foundational building blocks to the program. I think there's a general assumption that we all know how to "eat better" but there so much more to it than less fat/carbs and eat more fruit/veggies! If you want to give your weight loss initiative a turbo charge, sit in on the meeting for the next few weeks and you'll be surprised by how much (more) there is learn!”
Did you give any thought to the question of the week?
IS YOUR SUPPORT “Shaky” or “Solid”?
WE cannot live in a “Weight Watchers Bubble” which means that support from nearest and dearest becomes a PART of this journey. Have you sometimes found that the support you get is less than helpful or worse; destructive? You don’t HAVE to accept that – the way you interact with those around you is in your hands. Take back your “TRUTH” – don’t let saboteurs, whether they’re aware or unaware of their actions, derail your efforts.
I promised to include this discussion from the meeting in this weeks segment
5 Steps to STAND UP FOR YOURSELF; manage your relationships to turn shaky to solid support!
STEP 1. PLAN WHAT YOU NEED – decide what help you need from the person
STEP 2. ANTICIPATE HOW THEY’LL FEEL – think about “their agenda” and what pushback you might get from them
STEP 3. SPECIFIC ASK – be sure to address the anticipated pushback when you ask for what you need
STEP 4. NEGOTIATE – be flexible incase you can’t get exactly what you were looking for
STEP 5. SAY THANK-YOU!
In this week coming up – in preparation for the Walk-!t Challenge and for LIFE…
“Breakfast for Champs”
The Value of Breakfast
Research has shown that people who skip breakfast may not be as successful with weight management as people who eat breakfast regularly. That’s because skipping breakfast can make you more likely to overeat later in the day. A study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition suggests that breakfast eaters fall prey to impulse snacking less often than non–breakfast eaters.
There are 7 DAYS left till Walk-!t Day – Next Sunday – May 22

Mother’s Day Dinner at a Restaurant
By Joe DeP – WW Member, NY
On Saturday evening my daughter, granddaughter, and I took Carol out to dinner to celebrate Mother’s Day. We chose a restaurant that we hadn’t been to, one that catered to we carnivores, and one that had no PointsPlus on the menu.
Well wouldn’t you know it, there was Maura Wineplease, just out on parole, making the rounds. Of course we didn’t want to be rude to her so we invited her to join us.
Carol found her to be kind of sweet. She had a red blush look, and was very mellow. I, on the other hand (my right one), found her to be a bit dry. Her ruby red complexion was very alluring, and I did find her to be full bodied; but I had to divert my attention from her once Carol gave me “the” look. You know, the look that says married men shall not look at full-bodied …… wines.
Maura did say that she knew a lot about Weight Watchers through the grapevine. Also, I do have to admit that she had a lot of spirit and added to my uninhibited outlook on things.
My eleven-year-old granddaughter really didn’t have any interest in Maura and just kind of focused on that good old chemical formula of mixing two parts hydrogen with one part oxygen. I never found that form of chemistry to hold much water. But, zero points did make a great number to consume, so I yielded to her in-FLUID-ence. My daughter didn’t pay any attention to Maura either; she felt that Bud Wiser was a much better table companion.
Of course Maura insisted that we invite her other friends to join us: Jack Daniels, Johnny Walker, and Jim Beam but we declined stating that we were all members of an elite corps of crack PointsPlus calculators.
I did order a low calorie, low fat, high fiber, and low carb meal. I just loved my celery stick sandwich topped with fat free cheese--no just kidding. Carol insisted that I throw caution to the wind and make “like I was from California”: that is be a 49er (49 extra points), and order something without guilt. What more water?
Carol’s Mother’s day treat came from a steer who hailed from Texas and felt that points should only be counted in football games, not meals. It was medium-rare for Carol to order something like that, and I of course didn’t want her to feel guilty, so I just went a Longhorn with her.
Robert Breadford tried to butter me up during the meal but I ignored him. Sally Dressing joined us, but I kept her contained so that she couldn’t spread her points of view.
Mr. Potato head also attempted to invade my space but I opted for one of his relatives, that sweet young thing from Idaho. You know, the one who wasn’t too stuffy or starchy. I was determined to follow the rule, “if it’s white, don’t bite.”
Of course at the end of the meal Desi Dessert made a presentation. Being a very special day, and knowing I had a whole month to work away any bad influence Desi had, I offered to split one of his specialties with Carol. She of course consented at first but soon felt that her special day deserved more than a half-baked excuse for pointing at points. So she consider saying, “damn the points, full speed-a-head” and was going to order her favorite vegetable based cake made with carrots. But you taught us that when you’re satisfied, stop! So Carol declined dessert. I of course followed her lead and declined also. See what a good influence you have made.
The meal was indeed superb, but alas we all have to pay for that which we find tasty, mouthwatering, and filling. My payment was going to be jogging 3.1 miles on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Okay, I lied, just Tuesday.
So, as a tribute to all Weight Watching Mothers, and Mothers everywhere, I extend to you all a very Happy Mother’s Day. For without all of your wonderful, kind, and loving care the world wouldn’t be what it is today.
